Subtitle Lab
Subtitle Lab is a roundtrip subtitle service for Adobe Premiere. It grew out of the earlier text-to-MOGRT workflow, but the scope here is broader: instead of solving only one direction, it handles the messy back-and-forth that real subtitle work usually turns into.
The service currently supports three practical workflows:
- extract subtitle MOGRT tracks from a Premiere project into clean
.srt, - restyle one set of subtitle MOGRT clips using the style from another track,
- take an
.srtfile and rebuild it as MOGRT subtitles inside Premiere.
The part I like most about this project is that it solves a very real editing annoyance: subtitle text and subtitle styling keep getting trapped in different formats, and too much of that work still gets done by hand. Subtitle Lab is an attempt to make that roundtrip feel much less manual.
It is also a nice sequel project. In some ways it is more complicated than the first subtitle service, but it reached MVP much faster because the earlier project had already taught me where the hard parts actually were: Premiere project inspection, MOGRT text extraction, timing preservation, template reuse, and the boring but important deployment details around a public service.
There is a longer build note in the blog.
